Comping In Logic 9 [video]

Composite – forming a collection from seperate parts

Comping – the act of making a composite track from the “best” parts of multiple tracks or takes.

Comping happens in almost every professional recording that isn’t done in one take like live shows or having the Allman Brothers Band walk in to your studio. (Rumor has it their album Where It All Begins was recorded in one take, now that’s skill.)

Of course, could really be just a rumor, but for the rest of us, representing yourself on your album as the best you your fans’ money can buy is essential.

That’s where comping comes in.

This video explores comping inside Logic 9.  One of my very favorite DAWS to comp in, because of the quick swipe comping feature.

Quick what?

Quick Swipe Comping.  By far the easiest way I have come across to make up a composite track, so for those of you working inside of Logic 9, and need to comp that vocal or guitar solo, push play and learn the beauty of the Logic 9 feature “Quick Swipe Comping “.

[...] GarageBand does have the ability to cycle record and keep each cycle as a “take”, then allowing you to choose your best take, but it does not have the ability to comp those takes like “Quick Swipe Comping” does inside of Logic. Watch this video to see quick swipe comping in action. [...]
