Genre Marketing

Answering the following question used to be fairly simple:

“Oh, you’re a musician? What kind of music do you play?
“Rock.”
“Oh, cool”

…or…

“Oh, you’re a musician? What kind of music do you play?
“I rap.”
“Oh, cool”

You get the idea. It’s a simple question and answer that many musicians get all the time. Almost guaranteed to happen the first time someone meets you and realizes you have music to offer, it’s practically automatic.

It’s the equivalent to being asked “How are you doing today?” and answering “Good, thanks.”. You may be far from “good”, but it’s your automated response 99% of the time.

They ask, you answer, now they know.

That’s the format for introducing yourself and your music.
I say that isn’t good enough.

I say that’s a missed opportunity to market your music. I suggest you adopt a new format immediately.

5 Step Creative Blueprint

One way to kick start your recovery from a dry spell is to think about the creative process as a system or a school of thought. Let’s take a look at how this 5 step blueprint can fuel your creative fires.

Become Legend

I watch movies when I exercise. It makes the time pass so much easier for those long spells of cardio. Today’s gadgets make it easy and portable.

The movie I’m watching this week is Batman Begins. I have seen it before, but for some reason, I had never seen it like this. I have had a paradigm shift.

“C’mon, Heath, Batman?” you might be saying.

Let me explain.
